This month Adie uses Burger Wisconsin's AngusPure NZ beef to make your own best Hamburger Sandwich (after all a burger is another style of sandwich, fillings between slices of bread) with a tasty Tomato Relish, for your end of summer barbecues.

Nothing could be more delicious than a homemade barbecue hamburger sandwich, other than, of course, a Burger Wisconsin 'Build Your Own' burger. Here is a recipe to prepare and cook your "at home" best burger.

For your burger buns at Burger Wisconsin we use our own recipe of Sourdough bread, using Olive oil, Rye, Semolina plus reduced salt and no added sugar.

Sourdough is known as the King of breads. Its production dates back to 1500BC and was most likely one of the first forms of bread making. Sourdough was very popular during the California gold rush, the mascot of the San Francisco 49ers is called 'Sourdough Sam'.

Where did "barbecue" come from

The word "barbecue" may have come from the French phrase "barbe a queue" (from whiskers to tail, the term refers to the original method in which a whole animal was cooked on a spit over an open fire), or the Taino Indian word for their method of cooking fish over a pit of coals "barbacoa". Another source says that roast mutton in Romanian translates into "barbec." So there are several accounts that vary on the true origins of the word.

Burger Wisconsin gives back, by feeding the homeless

homeless.jpgAt our recent Conference Franchisees wished to give back to the community by feeding homeless people in Wellington.

From our Brooklyn store, with help from Franchisees from other Burger Wisconsin restaurants, and from Father Des Britten (City Missioner) and the City Mission we delivered over 100 burger & fries meals to the Sisters of Compassion soup kitchen, the Night Shelter.

As well as reducing the effects of our footprint on the planet, Burger Wisconsin (as part of the local community), believes we should also support those in our community who have trouble supporting themselves.

Quote of the month

"Grilling, broiling, barbecuing - whatever you want to call it - is an art, not just a matter of building a pyre and throwing on a piece of meat as a sacrifice to the gods of the stomach."

James Beard 'Beard on Food' (1974)

"All normal people love meat. If I went to a barbeque and there was no meat, I would say 'Yo Goober! Where's the meat?'. I'm trying to impress people here Lisa. You don't win friends with salad."

Homer Simpson in 'The Simpsons'.
